City of international events

Jyväskylä has solid experience in arranging international high-profile events. The city has high-quality venues for meetings, conferences, festivals, sports events and more. Jyväskylä is the second most popular city for fairs in Finland and is also an important congress venue.

The University of Jyväskylä, JAMK University of Applied Sciences and the various companies and organisations operating in the city bring international and nationwide conferences and events to Jyväskylä. More than 5,000 events are annually arranged in this vibrant city. For example, around 850 different events attracting 350,000 visitors are arranged at the Paviljonki congress and trade fair centre every year.

Nearly 590,000 overnight travellers visit Finland’s second most popular trade fair city and fifth most popular congress city annually on leisure time and business trips. Everything in the city is located within walking or cycling distance, which lends natural support to the principles of sustainable development of the resource-smart city and makes it easy to arrange any kind of event.

The most significant and internationally known event is the Neste Oil Rally Finland, one of the largest annual mass events in the Nordic countries that attracts one of the highest numbers of participants in the World Rally Championship series. The largest sports event is the Finlandia Marathon.

A series of lectures carrying the name of Finland’s former President Martti Ahtisaari is annually held in Jyväskylä, covering topics of current interest in national and world politics. Speakers include prominent Finnish and international state leaders, Martti Ahtisaari, our tenth president, being the most internationally renowned of Finnish heads of state. In 2008, he was awarded both the Nobel Peace Prize and UNESCO's Peace Prize.

It is very easy and convenient to visit Jyväskylä as an international guest. Those living in the area have excellent language skills and customer service attitudes. Furthermore, the price level in the city is lower than that of the Helsinki metropolitan area.
