Jyväskylä and its immediate surroundings are home to numerous museums and beautiful churches such as Petäjävesi Old Church, which has gained inclusion in UNESCO’s world heritage list.
The varied, unspoilt nature of Central Finland begins just outside the city’s built-up area and offers many opportunities for recreational activities throughout the year. In summer these include hiking, cycling, swimming, boating, fishing and golf. In winter downhill and cross-country skiing constitute an excellent way of relaxing and staying in shape.
Lake Jyväsjärvi, located right in the heart of the city, is circled by Rantaraitti, a path for walkers, runners and cyclists. Due its beautiful lake scenery, great location and even, coated surface of the path, Rantaraitti has become immensely popular.
