Busy congress year 2017 in Jyväskylä
06.03.2018According to national congress statistics, Jyväskylä was ranked the fifth busiest congress city, when measured by the number of delegates. A total of 68 international meetings and congresses with 4565 attendees were organized in Jyväskylä. Meetings and congresses were organized mainly at University of Jyväskylä and their objective was to share scientific knowledge and strengthen international networks.
The number of international meetings and congresses and their delegates vary annually. “In Jyväskylä, 2017 was not a year of big congresses, but several small international meetings were organized at the university and university of applied sciences. The good ultimate outcome is also due to the university’s new statistical system for collecting congress data. The system helps to compile figures from even the smallest events”, commends Jyväskylä Convention Bureau Marketing Manager Jaana Ruponen.
”Organizing international meetings and congresses brings valuable visibility to scientific know-how,” Jaana Ruponen continues. “Jyväskylä is a compact congress city and delegates give good feedback.”
In feedback survey for congress delegates, respondents give Jyväskylä good grades. In 2017 Jyväskylä scored 4,3 from the maximum of 5 as a congress city. Survey had 319 respondents. For several respondents, clean nature, lake cruises and walking on Rantaraitti recreational route were refreshing experiences after an intense congress day.
Congress visitors bring revenue to the country and the city. According to national survey made by Finland Convention Bureau in 2016, congress revenue was €238 euros per day/person/city. Congress revenue for 2017 in Jyväskylä was more than €4,6 million.
