Jyväskylä congress and public event awards were granted
01.02.2018The 2017 Jyväskylä Congress Award was granted to IPVI 2017 Interpersonal Violence Interventions – Social and Cultural Perspectives international conference held on 14.-16.6.2017.
The award was accepted by Professor Mikko Mäntysaari from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä, together with the organising committee of the conference. The award was granted by Jyväskylä Convention Bureau, network of educational institutes, the City of Jyväskylä and companies providing conference services.
The conference was organized in co-operation with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Faculty of Education and Psychology at the University of Jyväskylä. The conference meritoriously puts scientific study of interpersonal violence in social and cultural perspectives, and was attended by 272 delegates, which 88 international from 24 different countries.
Public event awards
The Jyväskylä public event awards 2017 were granted for Jyväskylän Naisvoimistelijat ry and Jyväskylän Voimistelijat ’79 ry. The awards were accepted by Executive Director Kari Kasurinen from Jyväskylän Voimistelijat ’79 ry and Executive Director Sanna Nuija from Jyväskylän Naisvoimistelijat ry.
Gymnastics Finnish Championship, held in 12.-14.5.2017, and Gymnastics Days, held in 9.-11.6.2017 brought together 4050 athletes and crew, and in addition 7000 spectators. The events were nationally remarkable and supported Jyväskylä’s status as the capital of sport in Finland. The duration of the events was several days. They were organised in co-operation with two significant sports associations in Jyväskylä.
The congress and public event awards are granted in an annual congress evening event, the objective of which is to motivate people in international networks to bring congresses, meetings or events to Jyväskylä. The awards were handed out in the event held on 31 January by the Mayor of Jyväskylä Timo Koivisto and the principal of University of Jyväskylä Keijo Hämäläinen.
Congresses and events bring significant tourism revenues
Around 3,500 visitors attended the congresses arranged in Jyväskylä last year. According to the congress survey conducted by Finland Convention Bureau, visitors spent an average of €256 per person per day during their stay in Finland. According to the calculations made, of this total amount, €237 per person per day remained in Jyväskylä. The congress income in Jyväskylä for 2017 will amount to be around €3,2 million.
Around 5000 events of different sizes, from smaller pop-up events to mass events, are organized yearly in Jyväskylä. Of these, more than 1000 are over 200 person events, of which around 60 big events. In 2017, the outdoor events were attended by 400 000 persons.
