23.01.2019The 2018 Jyväskylä Congress Award was granted for the organizing committee of the 5th European Congress of Conservation Biology (ECCB2018). The congress was held for the first time in Finland on the 12th -15th of June, 2018. The congress was tackling environmental problems, raising awareness among citizens and decision makers about how our lives are completely dependent on ecosystem services produced by other species. In addition, tips were provided on participation in environmental issues.
The prize was received by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Jyväskylä, Mikko Mönkkönen, Chairman of the Congress, together with the Organizing Committee. The award was given by a congress marketing background group made up of representatives of educational institutions, the city and companies providing conference services.
CONGRESS AMBASSADOR REWARDED AN ACTIVE CONGRESS ORGANIZER
For the first time, the Congressional Ambassador Award was awarded to Tero Tuovinen, Research Coordinator, Faculty of Information Technology, University of Jyväskylä. Kaisa Miettinen, Professor at the University of Jyväskylä, who started as a Congress Ambassador in the summer of 2018, decided on the award winner.
- Tero Tuovinen earned the award for long-term activity in organizing various congresses. The work would not have been possible without good international and national networks and a strong belief in the importance of congresses and workshops, says Congress Ambassador Kaisa Miettinen.
